PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
Blood is drawn, spun to concentrate platelets and growth factors, and injected into the scalp. Several studies show PRP can lift hair density and thickness — usually as a complement to minoxidil/finasteride rather than a standalone answer. It runs as a series of sessions with occasional touch-ups.
Microneedling
Fine needles create controlled micro-injuries that trigger wound-healing growth factors and sharply improve how well topical minoxidil or dutasteride absorbs. Studies consistently show microneedling with minoxidil beats minoxidil alone. It's cheap and can be done at home (carefully) or in-clinic.
Stem cell & exosome therapy
These use stem-cell-derived signals or exosomes to rouse dormant follicles. 2024 trials reported more terminal hairs and thicker shafts — promising, but the science is early.
How they fit together
Treat regenerative options as boosters on top of the proven core (minoxidil + finasteride/dutasteride) or alongside a transplant, not as replacements. Microneedling gives the best value; PRP is reasonable with realistic expectations; stem cell and exosome work is best approached carefully while the evidence matures.
